Burning Itch Dermographism

by Corrina Allman
(Easton, Maryland USA)

I've had this problem since I was a little girl. I didn't know I had a skin problem and I just thought that since I was so fair skinned the red marks went along with it. About a year ago, I started to have severe itching on the soles of my feet, palms of my hand and between my fingers and on my forearms. This is a burning itch that gets worse by scratching. I would scratch so much that I would start bleeding. I went to my doctor and they sent me to an allergist, who told me what I had. Now I have to take medication just so I won't scratch my skin off my body.

Possible Medications
by: Anonymous

I also have dematographism and I suffered from it for almost 7 years before I was diagnosed. The doctor started me out on Clarinex and Zyrtec each day but I went down to one a day. I took Clarinex which worked well, but when I lost my insurance I switched to Zyrtec since it is now over the counter. These have helped me Tremendously with the itching. I still have red marks and occasionally I'll have itching again, but I just take another Zyrtec in those cases. I hope this helps. I'm not sure what you're taking now, but the prescription strength antihistimines work much better than the others.

What is the medication they gave you for the itch. This is the only thing I need to be gone. It is about to dry me crazy this everyday itching. I am already taking antihistamines. Any help would be appreciated.
