Red Inflamed Skin Scratches on Body

I've had this condition of inflamed skin scratches for years. I'm about 20 now and I've had it since I was 12. I have dry skin but I noticed that the inflamed skin scratches started slowly. At first I thought it was only in the winter time. It was for a short while when it was really cold and did not occur often, maybe a few times a week from what I can remember. Then in the summer this inflamed skin condition also flared up and ever since then it has appeared more often and anywhere on my body. My skin was just becoming more and more sensitive and the only way I found to relieve the inflamed skin was antihistamines.

It is a very annoying condition. People ask me what happened to my face because it mostly appears on my face. Friends and family tell me not to scratch, but I really don't notice most of the time when I scratch - the inflamed skin scratches just come up. It's very frustrating and I wish there was a cure. It makes me feel a bit self-conscious going to important events/parties and interviews. It's not pleasant. My mom has psoriasis, so I'm not sure if the inflamed skin scratches and psoriasis are related. I should also add that the inflamed scratch marks are red and last for not longer than 10-15 minutes no matter where on my body the inflamed skin scratches appear. After they appear they slightly burn and feel itchy. It becomes more frequent when I'm stressed and tired.

OMG

I have the same problem. I also thought I was the only person in the world. People look at me funny when it happens. Does anyone know what it is called or how else to manage it other than antihistamines?

Same Red Inflamed Skin Problem
by: frowny face

Same here! I bump or scratch my arm on something and it feels itchy and the skin welts up. I can brush my arm on a blade of grass and when it feels like the rubbed area might get itchy, the skin puffs up were contact occurred and it gets red around it. My skin condition actually started out worse that it is now. My skin would hive up or welt up everywhere, except my face, and it would cover a whole area like my tricep. Now that I have learned to not scratch the itchy skin, it is getting better, but it still happens ten times a day at work and once or twice when I am off of work. Stress and sleep definitely play a big role in causing the hives and welts to appear. I thought I was the only one with this skin problem. Thanks for sharing your story.

Itchy Skin

I have exactly the same problems, nothing seems to help. Even plain water aggravates the itchy skin. I am very frustated by this condition.
